Job Description

As an Automation Engineer at Micron, you will design, standardize, and deploy factory automation solutions across Assembly & Test manufacturing operations. The role involves close collaboration with site automation teams, procurement, safety (EHS), and global engineering teams to identify opportunities, define standards, and drive automation roadmaps.

You will also work closely with automation solution providers to align their technology roadmaps with Micron’s manufacturing needs.

Key Responsibilities

Automation Standards & Design

• Establish and standardize mechanical and electrical automation designs
• Define standards for sub-assemblies, process control, and vision solutions
• Ensure compliance with SEMI and country-specific safety & ergonomic standards
• Standardize WIP carriers such as FOUPS, cassettes, JEDEC trays, and PCB racks
• Publish Design for Automation (DFA) guidelines for new products

Factory Automation Roadmap

• Review and approve automation solution designs
• Drive design standardization across global manufacturing sites
• Review technical procurement specifications and automation requirements
• Establish and evaluate ROI methodologies for automation investments

Vendor & Technology Partnership

• Build strategic partnerships with automation solution providers
• Align vendor technology roadmaps with Micron’s automation strategy
• Drive innovation initiatives delivering measurable business impact
• Support cost and lead-time models for supplier negotiations

Performance & Continuous Improvement

• Define KPIs for automation systems (AMHS, stockers, ASRS)
• Monitor system performance against payback and productivity goals
• Drive continuous improvement programs (CIP) across manufacturing sites

Eligibility Criteria

Required Skills

• Knowledge of factory automation systems and manufacturing processes
• Experience with mechanical and electrical design standards
• Understanding of AMHS, stockers, ASRS, and process automation tools
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and stakeholder management skills
• Ability to work cross-functionally with global engineering teams

Good to Have Skills

• Experience in semiconductor or electronics manufacturing
• Familiarity with safety standards (SEMI, EHS)
• Exposure to ROI analysis and automation business cases
