Role Overview – Junior Software Engineer

As a Junior Software Engineer at SmartBear, you will work on building and scaling AI-driven workflows across SmartBear’s developer tools. The role emphasizes backend development, API-driven systems, and emerging AI/agent-based architectures, while also offering exposure to full-stack development.

You will collaborate closely with experienced engineers, validate new product ideas, and take ownership of features from development through production.

Key Responsibilities

• Build and enhance products across API management, testing, and observability domains
• Develop AI-powered and MCP-style workflows on top of existing SmartBear products
• Rapidly prototype and validate new use cases from research concepts
• Maintain a strong focus on end-user experience and product quality
• Participate in code reviews across frontend and backend systems
• Deliver production-ready code on time and support post-release improvements
• Measure system performance and iterate to improve overall product experience
• Collaborate within a growing engineering team following high coding standards

Required Skills & Technical Knowledge

• Working knowledge of Python
• Exposure to backend frameworks such as Flask or FastAPI
• Interest or familiarity with LLMs, agent-based systems, or AI workflows
• Experience running services using Docker
• Basic experience deploying services to AWS with guidance
• Understanding of HTTP, REST APIs, and client–server architecture
• Familiarity with GitHub and team-based version control
• Exposure to TypeScript/JavaScript, HTML, and CSS for frontend work
• Knowledge of NoSQL or vector databases is a plus
• Strong communication skills and ability to work from defined requirements
