Role Overview – Engineer Tapeout Engineering at GlobalFoundries

As an Engineer – Tapeout Engineering, you will be part of the Global Tapeout and Mask Operations (GTMO) team, supporting end-to-end tapeout execution for advanced semiconductor products. The role requires close collaboration with internal teams such as OPC, Frame, Tapeout Logistics & Integration (TLI), Global Shuttle Operations (GSO), and PLCM.

You will focus on delivering high-quality tapeout services, meeting best-in-class cycle times while ensuring strict adherence to industry and manufacturing standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Execute daily tapeout operations including DRC checks and mask data preparation
• Validate tapeout data and release data for fracture and downstream processing
• Collaborate with global tapeout teams to improve efficiency, cost, and cycle time
• Debug and resolve issues related to EDA tool runs and failures
• Automate tapeout process flows using scripting where applicable
• Solve complex technical challenges across multiple projects
• Track and report tapeout metrics and KPIs
• Maintain and update tapeout FMEAs
• Develop documentation, best practices, and internal training materials
• Ensure compliance with EHS and security standards
• Work flexible shifts (Sun–Thu or Tue–Sat) based on business requirements

Required Skills & Competencies

Technical Skills

• Strong fundamentals in VLSI and semiconductor manufacturing
• Good working knowledge of Linux commands and directory structures
• Familiarity with EDA tools (Cadence, Synopsys, Siemens/Mentor) – preferred
• Understanding of LSF environments
• Exposure to Python, Shell, TCL, MySQL is an added advantage
