Role Overview – Mechanical Design Engineer at Konecranes

As a Mechanical Design Engineer in the ICP Offer Engineering team, you will act as a technical interface between sales and engineering, delivering accurate and cost-effective crane design solutions. The role involves interpreting tender documents, selecting crane components, preparing layouts, and performing mechanical and structural calculations.

You will work on wire rope hoists, bridge cranes, gantry cranes, wall consoles, and hangar cranes, ensuring designs meet customer requirements and international standards such as FEM, CMAA, and EN.


Key Responsibilities

  • Provide techno-commercial offer support for wire rope hoists and customized CTO cranes
  • Interpret tender specifications to define scope and technical requirements
  • Prepare preliminary offer drawings and equipment layouts
  • Select crane components including hoists, end carriages, drives, and steel structures
  • Perform mechanical and structural calculations to validate designs
  • Coordinate with Electrical Design, Product Platforms, Purchase, and Supply teams
  • Track and communicate offer delivery timelines
  • Ensure drawing and design quality as per defined KPIs
  • Follow ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 awareness standards

Core Technical Skills

  • Strong knowledge of wire rope hoists, cranes, and crane components
  • Understanding of FEM, CMAA, and EN crane standards
  • Ability to perform mechanical and structural design calculations
  • Experience with CTO (Configured-to-Order) engineering

Tools & Systems

  • Familiarity with 2D CAD tools (Vertex preferred)
  • Working knowledge of SAP is an advantage
